How We Perceive

It seems that so many people can review a situation and come up with an evaluation that is completely wrong. Why is that when it is so clear to me what the answer is?

Each of us views life through a unique lens shaped by our experiences, beliefs, expectations, emotional reactions, fears, values, knowledge, and level of awareness. Two people can look at exactly the same situation and sincerely reach very different conclusions because they are not actually perceiving it from the same inner point of reference. What seems unmistakably clear to you may be filtered very differently through another person’s consciousness.

The ego-mind also has a powerful influence on perception. It tends to interpret situations in ways that protect our existing beliefs, identity, interests, and sense of being right. We may unconsciously notice the information that supports what we already believe while overlooking information that challenges it. This is true of other people, but it is also important to remember that it can be true of us. What feels like absolute clarity is not always the same as seeing the whole picture.

This is where Infinite Heart Oneness perception can offer a broader perspective. Oneness reminds us that, although we are individual expressions of consciousness, we are also interconnected parts of a greater whole. Instead of immediately asking, “How can they possibly not see what is so obvious?” we can become curious about what they are seeing from where they stand. Understanding their perspective does not require us to agree with it. It simply allows us to move beyond judgment and recognize that every person is interpreting life through a different window of awareness.

As our consciousness expands, we can learn to hold both discernment and humility. We can trust what we perceive while remaining willing to question our assumptions, listen to other perspectives, and consider information we may have missed. Sometimes we will discover that our original evaluation was sound. At other times, another person may reveal something we could not see from our own position.

Perhaps one of the deeper lessons of Oneness is that we do not need everyone to see exactly what we see. Our task is to seek the clearest understanding we can, remain open to greater truth, and respond to others with the same respect and consideration we would want them to extend to us. In this way, the Golden Rule becomes more than a guideline for behavior. It becomes a way of perceiving one another: DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.
